HISTORY

The Dora Creek and surrounding communities have enjoyed a long history of almost uninterrupted medical service since the mid 1880’s. The only interruption occurred during the Second World War when there was no Doctor available for a short period of time. The practice was originally located in Gradwells Road, Dora Creek.

After the war Dr Slavotnic opened a practice in Dora Street Dora Creek and following Dr Slavotnic’s death, the late

Dr Kelvin Earles purchased the practice from Dr Slavotnic’s wife.

Dr Kelvin Earles and his wife Dr Jennifer Dobson built up the practice and relocated to larger rooms at

7 Doree Place Dora Creek, where they were joined by Dr Bruce Hosken (now a retired Urologist),Dr Warren Shean and Dr Richard Drew.

Following Dr Earles death in 1977, the practice was purchased by Dr Warren Shean and Dr Richard Drew and over the years it grew to include four locations being Dora Creek, Mannering Park, Morisset and Cooranbong.

1999 saw the completion of a new purpose built surgery at Dora Creek and Southlakes Medical Group moved next door to 8 Doree Place, Dora Creek.  This is where our main practice is still located today.

In 2011 the practice was purchased by Dr Vinh Dao. Dr Shean and Dr Drew continued on as GP’s and currently still remain as integral members of the Southlakes Medical Group team.

2015 saw Dr Dao purchase the Wangi Medical Centre and welcome Dr Adrian Graham and staff as part of the Southlakes Medical Group team.

In 2016 two new practices were established, 10 Doree Place, Dora Creek, an Allied Health hub and a relocated premises to Cooranbong, Shop 13, 599 Freemans Drive, Cooranbong.

The current long term Doctors with the Practice include Dr Vinh Dao (current owner),

Dr Warren Shean, Dr Andra Dabson, Dr Chris Taylor, Dr Subhashi Premaratna.

Southlakes Medical Group is an accredited teaching practice and the doctors are very active in providing education, skills and mentoring to both post graduate and medical students.

APPOINTMENTS

Doctors Appointments:

Appointments are required for all non-emergency consultations. You may book with the doctor of your choice at the location of your choice. All of our surgeries are computer networked and are able to book appointments for any Doctor at any location. To book an appointment please go to our contact page.

If you require a formal medical examination or feel that you need more time with your doctor please discuss this with our Receptionist at the time of booking.  Long consultations are available upon request. Our Receptionists will do all that is possible to accommodate your needs and requests. Please notify the receptionist on duty if:

  • You are bringing a child for vaccination
  • The patient may have an infectious disease eg: the measles
  • The patient is in distress or pain and may need to lie down
  • The visit is for a workers compensation or third party injury

We attend to urgent medical problems without appointments so from time to time unavoidable delays may occur.

You are welcome to phone the surgery prior to your appointment to check whether your Doctor is running on time.

Our doctors may talk to you on the telephone where appropriate, regarding problems you may have during normal hours. When doctors are consulting a message will be taken and in an emergency a registered nurse may talk to you.

Registered Nurse Appointments:

Appointments for the registered nurses can be made at the reception desk or by telephone. These appointments are  at the discretion of your doctor.

PAYMENT POLICY

All consultations require payment at the time of your consultation. For your convenience we have eftpos facilities and we can submit your claim direct to Medicare, enabling you to receive your rebate within 48 hours.  An option for gap free payments is available in special circumstances. The fee for concession card holders and children under 16 years of age is reduced and follow up consultations may be bulk billed, if your consultation is not complex as determined by your doctor based on the length and complexity of your consultation.

Workcover consultations are charged at the current NSW Workcover Schedule rates. If your workcover insurer has accepted liability for your workcover injury, you will be able to claim a rebate back from your workcover insurer for the full cost of your visit.

Veteran Affairs patients will be bulk billed for standard consultations. Long consultations will attract a gap fee.

Procedures will require a gap payment to be paid at the time of your procedure.  The gap payment for procedures will be advised by your doctor prior to booking your procedure appointment
